A Paper Gift Box That Reads Like a Jewellery Case

A paper gift box is a rigid octagonal cut-corner box with a hinged flip-top lid and ribbon-pull closure, built for boxed gift sets rather than a standard rectangular case.

The cut-corner geometry sits between a jewellery case and a premium paper gift box. Topvisio is a paper gift box manufacturer based in Dongguan, Guangdong, China, offering FSC, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification, plus for EU-bound brands, packaging-weight data compliant with the PPWR.

The exterior is deep burgundy with a full-surface emboss and gold hot stamping over the star field, lettering, and border, giving the texture and gold combined depth.

Open the ribbon pull to a velvet-lined interior with a mirror in the lid and raffia grass fill. This paper gift box measures 245 × 161 × 98mm, weighs 307.7g. MOQ 1,000 units, sample lead time 7 days, production 30–45 business days after approval.

Drawer and book-style boxes have a monthly production capacity of up to 800,000 units.

Seven Production Challenges on This Paper Gift Box

Most rigid boxes have four to six production checkpoints. This paper gift box has more — each of the following produces a visible defect if wrong.

1. Octagonal Cut-Corner Precision

Eight cut corners must be identical in angle and depth. A fractional difference makes the outline asymmetrical — visually wrong even under a millimetre. We use a fixed die for all eight cuts and verify geometry on the first-article sample.

2. Full-Surface Emboss Uniformity

Die pressure must be consistent from lid centre to cut corners. A 0.05mm board thickness variation changes emboss depth at that point. We calibrate pressure across the full lid area during setup and hold it through the run. Uneven depth is visible at oblique angles.

3. Velvet Interior Lining Precision

Velvet stretches under tension, compresses under pressure, and the pile direction affects the visual result. The velvet must fit without visible seams, without compressed pile at corners, and with consistent pile direction across all faces. A misplaced seam or compressed section reads as a defect on an otherwise premium surface.

4. Mirror Insert Positioning

The mirror must sit flush, centred within the lid, with even margins on all four sides. Off by 2mm and the disproportion is visible. Adhesive choice matters: too strong and the mirror can’t be cleanly repositioned during QA; too weak and it shifts in transit.

5. Gold Hot Stamping Adhesion on Velvet

Velvet stamping requires higher temperature and longer dwell time than coated paper. Too low and the foil peels; too high and the pile collapses, leaving a visible halo around the stamp. We run velvet foil trials during sampling and confirm adhesion and pile condition before production.

6. Ribbon Pull Alignment

The ribbon must be centred, perpendicular to the front face, lying flat when the lid is closed. Off-centre and it hangs at an angle. We verify position against a template on every unit.

7. Base Gold Foil Strip Registration

A continuous gold foil strip runs the base perimeter. It must register precisely to the base edge — a drift above or below is visible from any angle. We hold the box in a registration jig during application and check the first ten units of each session.

Materials

157gsm Coated Board + 1,200gsm Double Grey Board

This paper gift box uses 157gsm coated board over 1,200gsm double grey board. The coated board carries the matte film, full-surface emboss, and gold hot stamping in sequence.

The 1,200gsm double grey board holds the octagonal silhouette under emboss press pressure across the cut-corner geometry. Standard 1,000gsm board at this size risks minor deformation at the corners.

Velvet Interior Lining

Velvet gives the interior a quality that paper and EVA cannot match at the same cost tier. The pile surface absorbs reflected light, making the interior appear deeper than its actual dimensions. Products present better against velvet in photography and in person.

Matte Film + Full-Surface Emboss + Gold Hot Stamp

Three treatments applied in sequence. Matte film first — unifies the print and protects ink. Full-surface emboss second — the die creates texture depth. Gold hot stamp last — foil is applied into the emboss surface, which is why gold reads as part of the texture rather than sitting on top. Changing the sequence produces an inferior result.

Raffia Grass Fill

The interior fill is raffia grass. Raffia is better suited to this paper gift box than EVA because the box dimensions — 245 × 161mm base — are large enough to hold a skincare set of varied bottle sizes and heights without a custom-cut insert. Raffia accommodates different product configurations and allows the recipient to arrange the products as they choose. It also adds a layer of transit protection without adding significant weight to the 307.7g base weight.

Customisation

Every specification on this paper gift box can be adapted to your brand. Topvisio’s in-house design team of eight handles development from brief to approved sample within one week.

Exterior Colour and Print

Standard: deep burgundy with single-colour specialist printing. Available in black, navy, champagne, forest green, blush, or custom Pantone. The full-surface emboss pattern is replaceable with a brand-specific design. Hot stamping colour adjustable: gold, silver, rose gold, holographic.

Interior Lining

Standard: burgundy velvet with mirror. Velvet colour is adjustable to match the exterior or provide contrast. The mirror can be removed, repositioned, or replaced with a printed insert. Interior lining material can be changed to satin, suede-effect, or paper card if velvet falls outside the target cost.

Fill Configuration

Standard: raffia grass fill. Replaceable with tissue paper, shredded paper, or custom EVA insert for fixed-dimension products. EVA adds tooling cost but provides better transit protection.

FSC Certification

FSC-certified production is available for this paper gift box. Topvisio manages the full chain-of-custody process. For brands that want to understand the FSC standards that apply to paper-based packaging, see the FSC Standards page.

Who Orders This Paper Gift Box

Prestige Skincare Brands — Annual Gifting

A skincare set in a paper gift box at this finish level communicates brand investment before the lid is opened. The octagonal silhouette, full-surface emboss, velvet interior, and mirror signal a considered gift experience.

For prestige skincare brands building annual gift sets, this paper gift box provides the visual quality that supports a premium price point.

Limited Edition and Holiday Collections

Deep burgundy reads as both festive and year-round premium. This paper gift box has been used for limited edition holiday skincare sets in Asian and Middle Eastern markets where gift packaging is evaluated as a direct indicator of the product quality inside. The gold foil star field and the velvet interior position the box as a collectible object, not disposable packaging.

Middle Eastern and European Prestige Retail

In Gulf retail, gift packaging quality is a purchasing criterion. A paper gift box with velvet interior and mirror reads as jewellery case quality — the association prestige skincare brands want at the point of gifting. In European prestige retail, full-surface emboss and gold foil meet the standards that luxury department store buyers expect.

Corporate Gifting at Premium Price Points

The 245 × 161mm base holds a full three-piece skincare set with raffia fill and no custom insert. For corporate gifting programmes where the same box holds different configurations, the open interior gives flexibility that a fixed EVA insert does not.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Why octagonal and not rectangular?
A rectangle reads as standard; an octagon reads as considered. The association with jewellery cases is intentional and is why this paper gift box works at prestige skincare pricing. The cost difference over a rectangle is roughly 8–12%, from the eight-corner die-cut step. Read More >>
