Shenzhen Gift Fair 2026: What We Saw and What It Means for Gift Packaging

Shenzhen Gift Fair 2026 gift packaging trends video walkthrough

The Shenzhen Gift Fair 2026 autumn edition (October 20 to 23) showed five clear gift packaging trends: furniture-style wooden boxes, keepsake boxes built for daily use, custom tins, shelf-ready food and wine packs, and printed paper gift boxes. This recap covers each trend, what it costs to make, and how brands can use it next year.

We are Topvisio Packaging, a custom rigid box factory in Dongguan, Guangdong, China, about a short drive from the show. We run 14+ automated production lines, with monthly capacity of up to 800,000 drawer and book-style boxes and 1,500,000 two-piece lid and base boxes. We offer FSC on request, with production at ISO 9001 / ISO 14001 / SEDEX audited facilities, and our packaging is PPWR compliant.

5 Gift Packaging Trends from the Shenzhen Gift Fair 2026

1. Wooden Gift Boxes Built Like Small Furniture

At the Shenzhen Gift Fair 2026, the wooden gift box halls looked less like packaging and more like a home storage showroom. Flip-top boxes, round wooden cases and multi-drawer chests came with metal pulls, decorative hardware and divided interiors.

The message from suppliers was simple: the box should stay on a shelf or dresser long after the product is used. For a brand, that means the logo stays in front of the customer for months instead of minutes.

You do not need solid wood to get this effect. A paperboard drawer box with metal pull hardware gives a similar furniture look at a fraction of the weight. Our guide to gift box hardware shows which handles, hinges and clasps work on rigid boxes.

2. Keepsake Boxes Designed for Daily Use

Jewelry boxes and organizer boxes followed the same thinking. Many samples had compartment trays, lined interiors and smooth sliding drawers, all made for repeated opening and closing.

This is a different design brief from a one-time unboxing. A box opened every day needs stronger hinges, cleaner corners and a surface finish that will not scuff after a few weeks.

Expect more buyers to ask about durability at the sampling stage. Wrapping paper choice matters here, and textured or laminated papers hold up far better than uncoated stock. Our notes on paper finishes compare the options.

3. Custom-Shaped Tins and Tea Caddies

Metal packaging had a strong presence at the Shenzhen Gift Fair 2026. Tea caddies, biscuit tins and candy tins came in round, square and fully custom shapes, next to irregular metal boxes made for seasonal food gifting.

Tins answer the same demand as wooden boxes, a container worth keeping, in a format that suits food and drink brands. The catch is tooling. Custom tin shapes need dedicated moulds, so they make most sense for large, repeat runs.

For smaller runs, a custom shaped packaging structure in rigid board can reach round or hexagonal forms without metal tooling.

4. Food and Wine Packaging That Sells from the Shelf

At the Shenzhen Gift Fair 2026, wine, biscuit and candy gift packs leaned hard toward retail display. Boxes were built to stand upright, show the product through windows or open fronts, and carry bold graphics that read from across an aisle.

Protection still matters, but these packs are clearly designed to win attention in a store first. For brands in retail and gifting channels, the box now has to work as a small display stand.

If you sell wine or spirits, a wine gift box with a window panel or a magnetic front flap covers both jobs. Chocolate brands can see the same idea in our chocolate box guide.

5. Printed Paper Gift Boxes Still Carry Seasonal Gifting

Between the wood and metal, printed paper gift boxes covered a large share of food gifting, retail packaging and holiday sets. Paper is still the practical choice when a brand needs strong graphics, light shipping weight and a lower unit cost across a full range.

The most interesting paper samples borrowed ideas from the premium halls, such as drawers, inner dividers and magnetic flaps, without the weight of wood or the tooling of metal. A magnetic gift box is the most common example.

Wood, Tin or Rigid Paperboard: Which Material Fits Your Gift Set?

Every material on the show floor had a place. The right choice depends on your order size, shipping costs and where the product is sold.

Wooden boxHeavyModerateHardest (mixed wood, metal, glue)Premium storage products
Metal tinMediumHigh for custom shapesGood if single materialFood, tea, large repeat runs
Rigid paperboard boxLightLowGood, paper-basedMost gift sets, mid-size runs

For most brands planning a gift set of 1,000 to 20,000 units, rigid paperboard gives the best balance. You can read more on how it compares in rigid box vs folding carton.

What the Shenzhen Gift Fair 2026 Means for Brands Planning Next Year

The common thread across every hall at the Shenzhen Gift Fair 2026 was packaging that people keep. That fits where regulation is heading in Europe.

The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation pushes brands to cut unnecessary packaging and move toward reuse and recyclability. A box that becomes a storage piece makes a stronger case than one that goes straight into the bin. If you sell into the EU, our guide to PPWR packaging covers what this means in practice.

A rigid paperboard box can deliver most of the keepsake value with easier recycling, since it avoids mixing wood, metal and plastic in one pack. A drawer gift box with an inner divider gives customers a reason to keep the box while freight costs stay under control. 5 Questions to Ask Suppliers at Your Next Gift Fair

Booth samples are made to impress. Before you leave with a stack of business cards, these questions will show which suppliers can actually deliver.

  1. Was this sample made in your own production or bought in? Many booths show products from partner factories.
  2. What is the MOQ per design, and does it change with custom inserts? Inserts often add their own minimums.
  3. How long does a custom sample take? A clear answer in working days is a good sign.
  4. Can you supply FSC-certified material, and when do I get the certificate number? It should come with the order.
  5. Which audits does the production site hold? Ask for ISO, SEDEX or retailer audit reports.

How to Turn Trade Show Ideas into a Production-Ready Box

Most brands leave a show like the Shenzhen Gift Fair 2026 with photos of boxes they like and no clear idea of what it takes to make one. The fastest route is to send those photos with your product dimensions, target quantity and budget.

From there, a structure can be chosen that matches the look within your cost range. Sampling for a custom rigid box takes 7 working days, and the standard MOQ is 1,000 units per design.

If you need certified materials, FSC certified packaging is available on request, with the certificate number provided with your order. Learn more about our production base on the About Us page, or send us your references for a quote.
